Tiles

Do you know how many different kind of tile there is?  Let's go over a quick list of the different kinds there are for you.  Porcelain tile, which is a heavier, stronger, more expensive tile.  Ceramic tile, which is less expensive, lighter type of tile.  Both come in many different colors and sizes.  A short walk through your local hardware store will give you many examples of these two types of tiles.  Do not be fooled into thinking that a $1.00 ceramic tile and a $6.00 porcelain tile are the same except for the cost.  If you are flipping your home then the cheaper tile may be fine, but if you have renters or this is your home go with a higher end tile.  Both porcelain tile and ceramic tile can be used as a kitchen tile or kitchen tile backsplash.

Besides these two common types of tiles there is also metal tiles, copper tile, stainless steel tiles, metal wall tiles, ceiling tiles, vinyl tiles and carpet tiles.  For the most part people install either ceramic tiles, or porcelain tiles in their homes.  Whether used as floor tiles, wall tiles, bathroom tiles, shower pan tiles, or tiles for the bath / shower walls.  Many times the floor tiles can be installed on the walls of the bath or shower and can be cut with a ceramic tile saw into smaller sizes and create a decorative tile design on the wall that will still match the floor tile.

Same as the kitchen tile backsplash, I have seen many tile setters cut the floor tile into four pieces and use on the walls for the kitchen tile back splash.  Again this is an excellent way to change the decor from the floor to the wall while at the same time keeping the color the same.

Nowadays every shower that I install gets porcelain or ceramic tile on the floor as well as on the walls.  This in my opinion creates a much nicer, and longer lasting shower then using an acrylic shower pan and tub surround on the walls.  The color is better, the wow factor is 10 times better, and cleaning ceramic tile is much easier than acrylic.  Every basement bathroom I do I sell this to my clients as the long term superior product.  Even my clients that flip houses use tiles before using tub surround.  This gives the people who are buying the property from them a much better product and has a faster selling rate and higher sales potential than a tub surround.
