Kitchen Tile Backsplash
The backsplash is the portion of the counter that rises up the back of the wall. I have seen counters that will have a four inch back splash and counters with a six inch backsplash. As well as countertops that use the counter as the backsplash that curves up the back. And some kitchen backsplashes will tile the complete wall behind the counter.
The name says it all, kitchen tile backsplash. In a kitchen many times you will splash grease, water, or food onto the wall. The purpose of the backsplash is for easy cleaning afterwards. This is much easier than trying to wipe down painted drywall surfaces.
Kitchen tile backsplashes are generally made of ceramic tile, but can be made with porcelain tile or marble as well. The tiles are usually 1X1, 4X4 or 6X6 inches. The tiles will have a glaze on them for easy wiping and cleaning. In some cases many people now will cut their floor tiles into smaller squares for the kitchen backsplash. This is an easy way to match the color scheme in the kitchen. The type of grout used for these tiles is the same as the floor tiles, so you will want to make sure you or your contractor seals the grout and the tile for easy cleaning and to prevent staining. The 1X1 inch tiles will come on sheets of 12X12 for easier installation. These can be cut to accommodate your kitchen backsplash height.
