How To Start A Painting Business
By Kelly P Kramer
Learning how to start a painting business can be very easy. As starting any type of business you need to follow certain regulations then use a formula to create success.
The first thing to do when starting a painting business is to get registered with the city or other locality you are in. As this changes from location to location you will want to check to see what sort of regulations are required for you.
Once you are registered, and you get a name for the company, then you will want to get a vehicle, insurance for the vehicle and for the business.
After that you need to start to find clients to get work from. At this point you should decide on what kind of pricing you want in your painting business. Do you want to have quoted prices or flat rate? Or would going by the hour make more sense? If you have been painting for quite a while then you will make more money with a flat rate system. If in the beginning years you charge $40 per hour and a room takes 10 hours, then when you get better you should still charge $400 for the room, if that room olny takes you 5 hours now you are making double the money. Don't get stuck on this topic, if people were willing to pay $400 before they will pay $400 now, regardless of time spent. That is just how people think.
Now you need to get clients. The fastest way to get clients is to pick up your local yellow pages or your local paper and start to call contractors. If contractors are not the way you want to go then you will want to put together a marketing plan that will help to get homeowners to call you directly.
